Justin Newton, who suffered extensive head injuries in a road crash three years ago received £100,000 in London's High Court yesterday. He was only 21 when tragedy struck - the car he was travelling in hit a lamppost. He was a front-seat passenger in the car, which was travelling along Chapel Break, Bowthorpe, Norwich, in November 2001.
His lawyers successfully argued that
the car's driver, Dean Bareham, negligently lost control of his vehicle while overtaking. As a result, the car spun out of control and struck a fence with its nearside embedded into a lamppost.
Mr Bareham was uninsured, and the personal injury solicitors sought compensation from the Motor Insurers' Bureau, an industry body set up to compensate victims of uninsured drivers and untraced drivers.
