Teacher
who slipped in a puddle at Tesco wins £95,000
damages.

Hilary Ball, 58, a teacher of
Blackheath, south London, suffered grave leg and spinal injuries when she ‘did the splits’ while shopping in the Lewisham branch of Tesco in February 2000.
Miss
Ball was forced to give up her
teaching career after she slipped up on a puddle of liquid
while shopping at Tesco.
The Court heard that the seriousness of
the injuries meant that Miss Ball, who was Head of Arts at Mulberry School for Girls in east London, was never able to resume her teaching
career. She was forced to take medical retirement from
the job.
Miss
Ball had claimed nearly £240,000, but lawyers for Tesco,
as expected hotly dispute the amount of her payment.
After last-minute negotiations -
just before her case was due to be heard,
Tesco agreed to settle her case for £95,000.
