Accident Claims - Widow awarded £470,000
Brenchley v
Motor Insurers Bureau
London High Court
November 2003 John Brenchley,
aged 33, was driving along Perry Street in Chislehurst, Kent,
in December 1999, when he collided with a car driven by John Harris, of Orpington, Kent.
He was fatally injured and later
died. Brenchley, an IT analyst with a leading firm
was making plans for a potentially lucrative freelance
career.
The widow, Caroline
Brenchley and her 5-year old son was
awarded £470,000 compensation at London's High Court.
Of the total damages £105,000 will be invested in court for Kieran until he is 18 as a ‘nest egg’ in memory of his father.
The claim was made against the Motor Insurers Bureau
because the Third Party, John Harris
was ‘apparently uninsured’. He
was later convicted of causing Mr Brenchley's death by dangerous driving.
