Health
and Safety Executive (HSE) promotes safety in the office
The BBC reports that The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is launching a new campaign to highlight the number of employees who are injured because of a fall at
work. Businesses are being warned to pay more attention to safety in the office.
A report by the HSE says nearly a third of
accidents at work involve a slip or a
trip (see tripping
accidents). In the UK last year, there were
some 40,000 such incidents, costing businesses
more than £500m and causing incalculable
damage to the injured workers and
their families.
Alarmingly, the survey also reported
that one in four workers said it was easier to turn a blind eye to
such risks and hazards than to remove or report them.
The HSE is now hoping to raise awareness about the personal and financial costs by helping employers and local authorities to find ways of reducing the increasing number of
incidents and personal
injury claims.
